Today I want to share with you something that’s near and dear to my heart. Some of you might have known that in addition to photography, I’ve a passion for working with impoverished communities. I spend a good amount of my days closely working with inner-city children in San Francisco, empowering them through education and cultivating social and emotional health. The key to social change is through reaching the children, and the most impactful way to strengthen them is through providing them a wholesome education.

Five years ago, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook Haiti, leaving much of the poverty-stricken nation in shambles. 500,000+ people were injured and killed in the quake and an estimated 5,000 schools were destroyed. Students were left without a place to read, learn, and grow. Five years later, these children still gather in an inadequate facility.

Currently, close to 50% of the 10 million people living in Haiti are under the age of 18. Almost half of those children don’t attend school, which means almost 2.5 million children are not being educated. Education to a child in Haiti means a hope for the future!

This is where you and I come in together. I am partnering with The School Sessions to help raise funding to build a school in Haiti.

The School Sessions is a one-day event across the globe on Sunday, April 12, 2015 to raise $200,000 to build a school in Haiti. Along with hundreds of photographers worldwide, I will be holding portrait sessions on that day and will donate 100% of the session fees to The School Sessions.

$200,000 will buy land and build a ten-classroom school for 220 students. The previous building was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake and these children (ages 3 to 16) are in need of a earthquake and hurricane-proof school to learn and grow.

When I heard of The School Sessions‘s beautiful initiative, I knew right away that I had to join and partner with them. On Sunday April, 12, 2015, I will be holding portrait mini sessions and donating 100% of the session fees to The School Sessions. I’ll be offering four 45 minute long sessions at $250 each. These sessions can be family portraits, love portraits, Linked In headshots, anniversary sessions, etc! Enjoy some new photographs of yourself and be a generous at the same time! The hope is that by providing these beautiful children a chance at quality education and a safe space to receive it, we grant them the priceless chance out of their current circumstances. I dream about what if one of these children that you impact will be the child that brings their family out of poverty? I knew that I absolutely needed to do something for this cause and I’d love for you to partner with me.
